Kathleen Madigan feels Michigans pain.

I sell more tickets in Detroit than in any other place than my hometown, and I think thats because it has so much in common with St. Louis, the comedian said. You had the auto industry and we had the breweries, working-class jobs that paid well enough and included benefits.

Now were the murder capitals; we flip-flop every year. Its like One more person and we could have beat them! Its all kind of a reflection of whats going on, though youre building a new Chrysler plant.

Its a welcome change from the last time she took a ride through Detroit, passing mansions that looked more like crack houses, she said, with big signs that read Please dont burn these down on Halloween.

I wanted to say, Why not? she said. It seems as if theyd be doing the city a vor.

After more than 20 years in the business, Madigan says shes seen the bigger picture, and with that comes the realization that whats happening in her milys small corner of the country is true in Cleveland and hundreds of other places around the country.

&8226; Where: Temple Theatre, 203 N. Washington, Saginaw

For 15 years, Id play a city for a week at a time, which really gave me time to check things out, she said. Id suggest the same to politicians. They travel, but they dont take time to see whats really happening.

Even with her ster paced schedule today, zooming in for a single night, I see whats being discussed, she said. Across the Midwest, half of the schools are closing,Nike soccer shoes but no one in politics is talking about education. Were putting out morons and then we get mad when we run into them at customer service.

Theres hope for America, but when we dont even answer our own phones anymore, you know somethings wrong. Jon Huntsman, nike air max shoes. whos running for president, is fluent in Chinese and that gets my vote. He can tell them The checks in the mail when they call looking for their money.

Its the sort of real-life humor she brings Sunday to the Temple Theatre in Saginaw, on the tail of the Showtime special, Gone Madigan, now available on DVD, and winning the SIRIUS Challenge Cup,nike outlet store. named by listeners as the radio services vorite comedian.

Forget the blue jokes; Its not in my make-up, she said, and it doesnt translate well to the late-night television shows that embrace her routine. In addition to her appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan OBrien, she won Last Comic Standing in 2004 and came back as a talent scout in 2007.

It was great because you reach people like my brother and his wife, who come home from work, eat, put their kids to sleep, catch Law and Order and maybe a few minutes of the news before going to bed.

I already had a following by the time I competed, but this added on a new audience. It was a nice bump.

Shes become a regular with another crowd off the beaten path, entertaining troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Theyre the best crowds of all, she said, adding that it helps when youre the only show in town. Well go to Afghanistan for Christmas and its freezing Nike mercurial vapor superfly, and you see people out there, four hours before the show, sitting in their chairs. Were so happy they showed up.

Theyre fighting a war thats kind of forgotten, Madigan said, and not even mentioned on a daily basis in the news anymore.

We have more than 100,000 people there, the population of Little Rock, doing their job and doing it for us, she said. I put on one of those 35-pound backpacks and fell over. Weve been there in the summer when the temperatures reach 120 degrees and theyre still wearing long sleeves and heavy flak jackets.

Its awful; if it was me, Id lay down and cry. Id rather storm the beaches in Normandy where you might get some wine and cheese at the end, or humor magazineinvade Germany and have some bratwurst and a beer. Here they have goat meat and something they tell you are eggs but you know they really arent.

Still, she said, the troops are so excited when they bring the tour, it makes it a lot of fun, even though it takes a few weeks to fully recover from the experience.

Its like a little city on the base, with people doing secretarial jobs and laundry and everything, she said. And they must have figured a way to sleep, though we havent yet.

Having fun is what brought Madigan into the business in the first place, a release with friends from her 9-to-5 job at a magazine following college.

After we were done doing magazine stuff, wed head for the comedy club, where they had an open mic, she said. I thought I can do that and then it became a way to make some extra money.

The hobby turned into a career.

A DANGEROUS METHOD Review

Exclusive: Director William Friedkin Talks KILLER JOE, Alternate Version of THE EXORCIST, His Career and More

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK Los Angeles Screening Recap With Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford; Updates on INDY 5 and More

Psychoanalysis is a funny profession.  Its doctors aren&8217;t like cardiologists or gastroenterologists.  Your heart is your heart, your intestines are your intestines, and so forth.  Psychoanalysis, on the other hand, attempt to impose rationality on the irrationality of emotions.  It works from a vague definition of &8220;normal&8221; and then tries to determine why a behavior deviates from that unspecified norm.  Sigmund Freud believed it was not the place of psychoanalysts to simply point out the abnormality, while his protg Carl Jung thought that the practice was worthless if it couldn&8217;t be advanced to help those in need.  These two figures illustrate the clash of the ego, id, and super-ego in David Cronenberg&8217;s A Dangerous Method, a film which brilliantly explores Freudian concepts and how we wish to indulge our base emotions but instead build a wall of reason and science to imprison our desires.  However, in attempting to convey this blockade, A Dangerous Method inadvertently cuts off its emotional connection to the audience.

The film opens in Switzerland in 1904 where Russian Jew Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) arrives at a mental institution.  It&8217;s a good place for her to be since she&8217;s literally stark raving mad.  Spielrein is placed under the care of Dr. Jung (Michael Fassbender), and he believes she&8217;s the perfect patient for a new field of medicine, psychoanalysis or &8220;The Talking Cure&8221;.  Dr. Freud (Viggo Mortensen) developed the technique of asking questions and letting the patient work through his or her emotion, but Jung wants to implement the new method and research its effects.  Through her conversations with Jung, Spielrein begins to understand her S&M fetish, returns to sanity, and begins her own research in the field of psychology.  Meanwhile, Jung begins a friendship with Freud but Jung&8217;s clandestine ual relationship with Spielrein not only serves to highlight the differences between the doctors&8217; personalities and philosophies, nike air max shoes. but foreshadows what will cause them to break apart.

From the outset,Nike soccer cleats we see that science is personal for Jung.  In an early scene, he does a polygraph test on his wife, not because he doesn&8217;t trust her, but because he can&8217;t stay emotionally distant from his research.  The polygraph test hints how Jung will intimately pursue his &8220;research&8221; when he takes Spielrein as his mistress.  Jung keeps their relationship secret and denies the rumors of it, but his super-ego keeps clawing at the door of his mind and he is torn between indulging his desiresa belief espoused by doctor/patient/total-id Otto Gross (Vincent Cassel)and remaining ithful to his wife and upholding his rising career.

For his part, Freud understands the fragility of his new medical discipline and he keeps his emotional distance from almost everyone even though his catch-all answer to psychosis (it&8217;s ual) betrays his own repression.  Freud believes he has a close friendship with Jung but it steadily becomes clear that Freud will not relinquish the direction of his discipline even though he declares Jung as his heir-apparent.  These two men can never be colleagues nor can they truly disconnect.  They are opposed yet work in concert and Cronenberg brilliantly crafts the ego/id/super-ego metaphor without even mentioning the concept to the audience.

A Dangerous Method is a wickedly smart movie.  Cronenberg challenges his audience at every turn forcing us to listen to the double-meaning of every utterance and how every &8220;scientific&8221; claim made by Jung, Freud, Gross, and Spielrein belies a personal and emotional conviction.   The characters believe they can impose rationality on the irrational when in ct it&8217;s the other way around.  Psychoanalysis is supposed to reveal the psyche but its language instead obfuscates the emotions the profession hopes to explore.

Unfortunately, A Dangerous Method has the same problem. Cronenberg cleverly demonstrates how psychobabble can disconnect individuals from their emotions and from each other, but he does it too well.  The film relies on its actors to convey the emotion but the wall is simply too high.  Mortensen is terrific as Freud and he lends the film its dry humor along with its few shades of sadness as the Austrian doctor goes from hoping his work will be carried on by his protg to fearing how it will be perverted by Jung&8217;s emotions and willingness to consider fringe-science like telepathy and mysticism.  Similarly, Fassbender does a ntastic job presenting the thematic conflict embodied in Jung&8217;s internal conflict of super-ego and id.

Knightley&8217;s performance takes some getting used to.  Because Spielrein opens the film and the character is screeching, laughing manically, and all around looney-tunes, Knightley has to go big and since the madness is textbook, it looks like an unimaginative performance.  As she juts out her lower jaw and throws on a Russian accent, the audience knows that she is &8220;Acting&8221; in all capital letters.  But once the character calms down and begins to explore her uality, her feelings for Jung, and her personal aspirations, then Knightley can provide a respectable performance and she holds the screen just as easily as Mortensen and Fassbender.

And yet these tremendous actors can&8217;t break through the dialogue and their characters constantly psychoanalyzing each other.  The film can&8217;t rouse any emotions because it purposefully throws up so many barriers to the characters addressing their own emotions.  When Spierlein breaks down and confesses how she became ually excited when her ther beat her, it&8217;s within the sterile confines of Jung&8217;s psychoanalysis.  She&8217;s talking through her pain but since we&8217;re seeing her through Jung&8217;s perspective and Jung is trying to keep his emotional distance, we&8217;re never let in.  We&8217;re encouraged to look Nike soccer shoes, but we&8217;re not allowed to touch.  Freud would approve.

Brian Vander Ark – Magazine

Brian Vander Ark – Magazine

Based on the melancholy nature of his first three solo releases,Brian Vander Ark has been through enough already.  Resurrection, Angel, Put Your Face On, and his self-titled third album are all tremendous albums in their own right, but they also tended to be downcast in their content, with few moments of humor or fun thrown in.  His newest album, Magazine is the exact opposite.  From its funny album cover, to the tracks contained therein, Magazine is Vander Ark&8217;s funnest solo album to date. It comes on the heels of the recently released Verve Pipe reunion, A Family Album; a release -ed to kids, with some winks thrown in for parents.  The sheer fun that comes from singing a song about cereal, has clearly rubbed off on Magazine.

Teaming with med producer, Bill Szymczyk, Mr. Vander Ark humor magazinehas succeeded in a charming, poppy, and thoroughly enjoyable album.  Opening pair &8220;Seems to Be&8221; and &8220;No Getting Over You&8221; are a fine representation of the album.  Overly dramatic piano,Nike mercurial vapor superfly glowing harmonies,  and Vander Ark&8217;s impassioned pleading on &8220;Seems to Be&8221; segues right into &8220;No Getting Over You&8221; which is all bouncy and joyous in its sound and lyrical content.  &8220;Independence Day&8221; is a poppy number too, reminiscent of Crowded House. Despite never reaching the heights of his major label debut with the Verve Pipe, Vander Ark can still write a helluva hook.  &8220;Miracle Mile&8221; is a slow acoustic love song with a nice muted vibe &8211; a welcome change of pace that shows caring in the production.  &8220;Into My Arms&8221; is perhaps the best song on the album and is easily as catchy as anything Vander Ark has ever done.  &8220;Gotta get you outta my head/Off of my mind/ Into my arms&8221; sums up the yearning theme simply, but effectively.

&8220;Michigan Coast to Coast&8221; is a name checking Nike Air force, rollicking tribute to the Wolverine State.  And what could come out as hackneyed and ke in lesser hands, thrives in Vander Ark&8217;s.  His tongue is planted firmly in cheek nike air max shoes, but his affection for the state is honest.  &8220;On the Day I Fell&8221; is a moving piano-led tribute to Vander Ark&8217;s wife and features some very soulful singing.  &8220;My Little Town&8221; is the big dramatic anthem that have become plentiful over his solo career.  Written with Jeff Daniels (the actor and part time musician), its affecting tale of pride and loss is a winner.  &8220;Red Letter Days&8221; is a great closer, opening with synthesized percussion and buzzes before Vander Ark begins his tale of renewal.  It builds slowly to a crescendo and ends slowly thereafter, not overstaying its welcome.

Magazine is a different kind of album for Brian Vander Ark.  It&8217;s more joyous, and yet like the rest of his solo catalogue it is filled with quality songs that sound great together.  His debut Resurrection was a mostly contemplative album filled with lost loves, regret, and death.  Personal vorite, Angel, Put Your Face On was even more dour with a jab at the right wing thrown in with the aforementioned themese.  And his self-titled album featured a song about a murderous hitchhiker and 9/11.  But Magazine is filled with true love, positivity, and renewal.  It is as good as anything he has done.

Media Matters for America

Boston radio host Howie Carr trumpeteda callers voicemail that discussed shooting an illegal alienwith an illegal gun Friday, after Massachusetts GovernorDeval Patrickcautioned againstblaming illegal immigration for a tal automobile accident involving an alleged drunk driver.

From the Chump Linesegment where Carr comments on listeners voicemails:

VOICEMAIL: Hey, hey Deval, Ididnt shoot that illegal alien, my illegalgun did. Technically, is that illegal, to shoot an illegal, with an illegal?

HOWIE CARR: You see how youcan tie yourself in knots when you begin to say one law is going to be enforcedbut another law is not going to be enforced.

"That should be illegal!"

"Inciting violence already is.

Didn&39;t you know that?"

Apparently our Government, under the Obama administration, does not seem to know or care about that. There are countless examples of direct and overt statements calling for civil war which are very well within the legal definition of "Making a terrorist threat".

These people should have been arrested a long time ago, especially since the brainwashed, hate filled masses would not have been that demented several years ago-it takes repetition of propaganda to push people over the edge.

Now that nothing&39;s been done to quell these terrorists in gestation, this administration has painted itself into a corner. If it starts doing the right thing it could detonate the psychotic masses of Foxian puppets.

If nothing is done, these psychos can, and eventually will, self-detonate. And doing nothing seems to be the conscious decision of those in charge.

It seems that our government&39;s philosophy is: If you ignore them, they will go away. This is probably based on the tactic of deliberately ignoring a blustering individual on the assumption that he only wants attention. So, if he&39;s ignored, he&39;ll get tired of his act.

The problem with that type of thinking is that we are not dealing with a blustering individual-a single loudmouth. Instead, we are dealing with a collective group of tens of millions. They don&39;t need to beat their chests in front of everyone. That&39;s because they are their own audience.

We have reached a critical mass where there is simply too much dry tinder in a dry forest. The civil war these terrorists want will become a self fulfilling prophecy.

I suggest that everyone here plan their lives accordingly.

I&39;m curious as to what exactly you think is going to happen.

(As a side, how is this any different than any other doomsayer out there?)

I never got why Howie Carr hated Whitey Bulger so much; they have a very simidry humor definitionlar attitude about human life.

I remember seeing a commercial way back in the mid- to late-90s where it showed people buying concert tickets, paying bills, checking their bank balance, and watching live baseball games, all on the "World Wide Web". I remember how to narrative to the expanding powers of the Internet were touted as a means to retrieve knowledge at the speed of light, where internet speeds would one day allow an entire web page to load in a fraction of a second, where school kids could have a world of knowledge at their fingertips, where advances in science, medicine, and other technologies would become available to anybody, anywhere, at any time. It was going to be an information revolution the likes of which the world couldn&39;t possibly imagine.

What happened instead? Dumb people learned to use the Internet. But not just any dumb people, dumb people with dangerous ideas, and a whole plethora of emotional problems where violence is often their only response. These dumb people then found each other, started talking on message boards, and started coalescing into a blob of vitriolic anger, mixed with the nationalism, racism, and xenophobia of old, and steeped in a teacup until certain politicians started paying attention, cleaning up the delivery of the message (but not the content,Nike soccer shoes or spirit of the message), and started taking over our nation&39;s government.

Video may have killed the radio star, but the Internet will kill America.

These dumb people then found each other, started talking on message boards, and started coalescing into a blob of vitriolic anger, mixed with the nationalism, racism, and xenophobia of old, and steeped in a teacup until certain politicians started paying attention, cleaning up the delivery of the message (but not the content, or spirit of the message), and started taking over our nation&39;s government.

People like that have always existed 100 years ago, they exist now, and I see no reason why they won&39;t exist in the future. This can be considered a flaw of democratic governments where a person is promoted solely based on popularity.

I honestly think you&39;re being too dramatic.

That is just my 2 cents, I just had to say it. Sorry :(

Fascinating. I think people who are cheerfully speaking of their intent to murder other human beings have kind of waived the right not to be insulted.

I meant in a sense of overgeneralization. Imbecile spoke of "dumb people with dangerous ideas."

I&39;ve never been into mocking or insulting anyone. I&39;m too nice for that. :P

I&39;m glad you&39;re not too taken back from my note.

I think people (especially those in politics) have a bad habit of taking themselves too seriously.

"I meant in a sense of overgeneralization. Imbecile spoke of "dumb people with dangerous ideas.""

At any given time 14 million people per week are listening to Rush Limbaugh and you think it is a overgeneralization? The United States has a virtual corner on the market for repubtard morons. These same morons all have access to the internet.

""dumb people with dangerous ideas."" is a perfect description of ux viewers.

There are a lot of and stupid people in the America. There are 77 million Americans with an IQ under 89. Over 46 million Americans do not have at least a high school diploma. All of these people watch ux, IMHO.

This link shows the percentages of Americans at any given level of IQ:

This link shows the total population at 308 million.

The first link tells us the percentage of Americans belwo 89 IQ is 25%. Multiple 308 million by 25% and you get 77 million. The below link from Business Week magazine tells us that at 85% of Americans have a high school education, thus 15% do not. Multiple 15% by 308 million and you get 46.2 million without a high school education.

If you just inlude over 18 Americans nike air max shoes, there are 34.5 million Americans without a high school education and 57.5 million Americans over 18 with an I.Q. under 89. I am sure they all watch ux nooze (My speculation)

It is important to understand the WHY, but that doesn&39;t mean we have to humor them and give them legislative power while we unravel the clinical mysteries of their emotions and ignorance.

Yes, dumb people have always exist, but 100 years ago, if they wanted to commiserate with one another, they had to walk, or figure out how to ride a horse, and even then, they could only travel so r, thus limiting their infection of dumb ideas to only those within a days&39; travel.

Today, however, they don&39;t even have to put pants on to do that same thing.

Where we once only had one or two angry souls bemoaning emancipation on someone&39;s front porch, we now have nearly every last one of them hunting and pecking their malapropisms, misspellings, and mutated thoughts into one cacophony of idiot outrage. The idiocy is laughable; the effects to our national discourse, and the influence they wield over politicians desperate for a new block of previously unexploited voters is not.

The idiocy is laughable; the effects to our national discourse, and the influence they wield over politicians desperate for a new block of previously unexploited voters is not.

If thier so-called &39;idiocy&39; is popular and it gets politicians votes then nothing else matters.

Those that are politically astute are the minority, and minorities don&39;t win elections.

That thinking runs afoul of the constitution, which is what actually matters, because it specifically prohibits mob rule, otherwise known as majority rule.

Ah, I&39;m glad you bought that up.

Everyone has a different idea of what the constitution "should" be. That includes the man on the street and SC justices, so I don&39;t think that is entirely effective.

Neither. (as I&39;m not entirely sure what those are.)

However, I&39;m just always curious as to others think.

For example, if a Republican and/or Libertarian gets up and says something that alot of people agree with. (even something you think is stupid) Isn&39;t how that democracy is supposed to work?

That is how democracy works. But we&39;re not a democracy. We&39;re a Representative Federal Republic. We are bound by law Nike mercurial vapor superfly, not people. We adhere to the constitution, not the whims of the vocal idiocracy.

That sounds like a lot of nonsense to me.

Those who are the most vocal and loudest will always gain the most influence in any government. Especially when so many voters are apathetic like they are now.

How do you know alot of people agree with something.

There are people paid to promote talking points using multiple identities. How do you isolate the paid opinions?

The case of around a hundred of these paid wingnuts dominating a news site, has no equivilent on the left.

Imbecile has made a call of stupid, towards individuals and groups, after presenting an argument. Our trolls respond with insults, lies, and an astonding inability to understand the written english language.

Others agree because the choice of scapegoats leaves them with no responsibilty for the problem and a chance to exercise their ux righteous anger at the scapegoat "others."

There are several regular posters who identitfy themselves as conservative and post well.

The teaparty rates currently as less popular than either muslims or atheists. Yet whose opinions dominate, and are given cresidence, by our media.

You acutally bring up a good point. If the Tea Party is so detested then how come they get all this media attention? I&39;m sure everyone here knows why.

However, I think should be able to use thier money as they see fit so if they want to give thier money to do something worthless it&39;s thier loss.

I&39;ve listened to Howie on & off for years. This example from the "chump line" is pretty much the tone of a lot of the comments that get recorded & played. And Howie&39;s response, typical as well.

BTW, if Howie finds out MMFA covered this, he will wear this thread like a badge of honor. I&39;m gonna try to listen to his program [volume low] on my computer. I&39;ll let ya all know if he mentions this.

It&39;s a nautilus shell!

That&39;s my answer to everything I don&39;t have an answer for from now on. LOL!

I haven&39;t seen Miz JJ here for a while hope her bike ride went well.

Were you safe and dry from the storm?

Thanks for keeping us posted regarding Howie, Jeter. For some reason I couldn&39;t play the above.

It&39;s a nautilus shell!

Ha! That can be our little inside joke ;-)

We were fine up this way, periodic heavy rain, some wind, but hardly hurricane force but we did lose power for about 6hrs. But up here losing electricity is a irly common occurrence whenever it rains, snows or the wind blows. It&39;s mostly an annoyance. Basically our power company, National Grid svcks. If they&39;d trim overhanging branches before storms so they wouldn&39;t break & take down power lines, it would go a long way in improving the situation. A lot of folks have invested in a generator, thus r we&39;ve held off, but we&39;re now seriously talking about it…

I haven&39;t seen Miz Julia around. Was she still gonna do that bike ride even with her recent bout with dizzy spells?

I&39;m listening to Howie on & off here, but thus I&39;ve haven&39;t heard him mention of this thread on MMFA. Maybe I&39;ll shoot him off an e-mail ;-)

He&39;s talking mostly about Obama&39;s uncle. Did you hear about that? Seems he got arrested up here in Massachusetts. Guy was drunk & driving. And he allegedly said he wanted to call the White House. Ha!I&39;ll find a link when I get a second.

Now see, you were probably one of those Conservatives (or was it the Tea Party) that refused to fill out your census form. If you had the Utility Co., county, or someone would have made those improvements by now. Ha-ha

Seriously, there are lots of folks in this area that think the the only purpose for the census is so Gobber-net can spy on us.

I&39;m glad you were spared the worst of that storm. I saw on another thread,Nike Air force. that you or your area, weren&39;t always that lucky regarding disaster. Probably a good idea to invest in a generator. Now days they even make quiet ones.

The "Chump Line" is Howie&39;s lame attempt at the "Whiner Line" done by WEEI, WRKO&39;s sports AM station in Boston. In ct, the caller on this message usually calls into the Whiner Line and is known for being dumb.

That being said, the caller did this tongue-in-cheek, but the producers were pretty much in the wrong to play it. Naturally, Howie let it slide, much like how his show has slid into the crapper.

F off, Howie!

I have listened on and off to Howie Carr&39;s program. Mostly just to hear what the other side is thinking and talking about. I did happen to hear this particular broadcast.

80% of Howie&39;s program, of late, deals with him bashing undocumented immigrants, "illegals" as he calls them. The balance of his program involves him shilling for his Cadillac dealer buddy in Woburn, from whom he gets a free car to drive around.

Another NR Friend Moves On

On Friday in New York City, mily and friends &8212; including National Review staff and subscribers &8212; celebrated the life of Faith Abbott McFadden. McFadden was the widow of James P. McFadden, once an NR assistant publisher, who founded Human Life Review. She took up his mantle after he died in 1998, but finally succumbed to cancer herself at the end of August.

I remember Faith here, dipping a littleinto her beautiful memoir,Acts of Faith, published by Ignatius Press.

If you are not a reader of The Human Life Review, take a look at itswebsite. Faith’s daughter, Maria, is editor there now.

Below the fold, the text of Fr. George W. Rutler’s sermon at her funeral Mass:

Requiem Mass Sept 2, 2011 Church of St. Agnes for Faith Abbot Mc Fadden

In the commerce of any day, there are three words that give pause and strike speech silent. A human curtain is pulled back, the cynicism that hardens feeling cracks, when someone, anyone, says three words: My mother died. If cried by a stunned child for whom the world was like a womb, or if they come from a youth who thought he had outgrown the need of a mother, or if they are whispered by a grown man who was always a little boy in the memory of one woman, those three words stop the moment’s noise for more than a moment. There is no easy protocol or adequate etiquette in reply, when someone says, My mother died.

One sorrow Our Lord was spared by the mercy of his Divine Father was the loss of his own mother. When she endured the contradiction of a mother losing her son, He made that abandonment an endowment to all who would accept his gift : Mother behold your son. Son behold your mother. In the sacrifice on the Cross,Nike mercurial vapor superfly Christ gave mankind His mother and in doing He gave us His body the Church, just as His physical body came into the world through her.

All ithful mothers bring human life closer to the mystery of eternal life by nurturing it first in the flesh and then in the Spirit. There never was a true mother who was not a good teacher nike air max shoes, and the Church in her prophetic role teaches her children mysteries which by their very nature are beyond our invention. So it was one Christmas Eve in Paris when the great writer Paul Claudel, only eighteen years old but his sense of God already dry and he thought dead, happened into the Cathedral of Notre Dame. He knew some biology and anthropology and theology, but he needed a higher teacher to bring them all together. During the singing of the Magnificat he was transformed and his embrace of God at that moment was never loosened. Later he wrote, When Paul spoke to me, and Augustine made things clear to me, and Gregory broke bread for me with antiphon and response, the eyes of Mary above me were there to explain it all to me.

Today the Holy Mass is offered for the repose of the soul of a mother of sons and daughters who loved her who loved them, and who spread that maternal bond to many others whom she instructed in the ways of God by writing and by the example of her life which is the most eloquent literature written on the heart. When her beloved husband James was called from this world, she took up his mantle and now we are left with the impossible task of counting how many of the least little ones, even unborn lives, she defended by her witness to the sacredness of every human life. That witness engaged the most important struggle of our age, defending life in a culture of death.

In 1862, Abraham Lincoln received Harriet Beecher Stowe in the White House. The President looked down from his height of six feet and four inches at the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin who was four feet tall. The account says that he feigned surprise and then said, So you are the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war. Faith Abbot McFadden, wife Nike Air force, mother, grandmother, author and friend, did not start any war but she fought well in the fierce contest between the truth of life and all the lies against it. That is a hard task because this world is hard, and she made it seem easy by ready wit, not disdaining even thatdry humor definition most disdained form of humor, the pun. Wise men have believed that there are even divine puns which we pass off as coincidences but which are acts of providence. To play with words is tribute to the Living Word who plays in the world he made. Such conscious humor is not the vaudeville bravado of those who laugh so as not to cry. It is a descant on love Nike soccer shoes, not sentimentality, which gives hope, not vague optimism, and which in turn is founded on the first virtuous gift of ith. Faith was named for ith in baptism, and the way she lived made real that precise definition given by God’s lively oracle: Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) Faith. It is by the lives we live that what we hope for becomes a ct and what is invisible becomes clear.

Prayers for those who have died, offered in ith and hope and love, cannot be less than joyful because of the promise of eternal life, but as that joy is from a larger world, it strains those left in this smaller world to the point of tears. Christ who wept for Lazarus and for the whole city of Jerusalem, understands human sadness at earthly partings. When he preached in Galilee the crowds wanted him to stay in their villages, and when he rose from the dead, the men on the Emmaus road, not knowing yet who he was or where he was going, were moved enough to say, Mane nobiscum, Stay with us. In each instance he did not stay, for he had to move on according to the will of the One who sent him, and as he moves on through the centuries, he gathers the generations one by one and those in them each by each and takes them along with him. We are left for a little while longer, to walk where he walked on the paths of this earth, and to serve him as those who have gone before us served him as best they could with what they had. And all the while as we walk we pray for the ithful departed among whom now is Faith: But thanks be to God, who hath given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.(1 Cor. 15:57)

I will never forget she and JP on St Patricks Day dancing a Greek dance. Now how am I going to get that recipe for Nika Hazeltons cake??

Today is Tuesday June 14 2011 my name is Steven — of I have Bryan song and Im Molly Wood log in above the allowed native podcast of indeterminate length that is episode 1489. And it is Denton real in the whole foods parking lot of immune that we were just discussing our various demographic differences then called college and other for the — but I — it comes Elijah. You definitely do cnet- — – every day at 10:30 PM. At 10:30 AM Pacific and yet but — I dont like what music youre listening to what things are my friends — both the and if peppers and your environment. Guys we you know — what are we doing but. — point on the — get a story Steven you wanna make your. Special announcement today at the top of the show — yeah yeah dry humor definitionwe we did a buzz out loud survey and Ive published — – which which over the last Friday — can publish and a — regardless it. But anyways we did this really but — survey were asking people to copy and paste it into. Your email fill out all your answers give us some suggestions for the show and then — at — – at cnet- and were just trying to. Get some ideas from their users — at users at like — reference yeah I got an idea you with the — about. How we can prove the show make it better so go to go check it out at the blog the. Yet and we we might to three posted on the mining and related to how to get it back to top of mind because really — As always with this show what you guys what really drives that for the better feedback even give us an answer and a better you know — better show up for example theres a reason why I — last. FBI via the feedback. Some positive constructive feedback. I was gonna sing a song in reference that but I decided not to you because of this positive. Feedback loop that we — going I didnt say anything but — – waiting for the — into very predictably freaked out at the words special announcement of the flu like. No burn any take announcement — it because I got out of that. It. — – — – — a bit word go fill out the survey pleased and ultimate tilting Olympus had to be like as we wanna hear the brutal seriously if you must. Right on to the — and used it today US companies according to a new lobbying drafted in congress would be forced to disclose if they have been hacked. Yet this — been penned by Mary Bono Mack whos a Republican from California she was on at the Marines during the data breaches where Sony and apps line. — promise — kind of talk about what had happened with their situations and shes looking to bring a bill designed. To protect our in the consumer information. So to get the vote Macs law will force these companies protect consumers by requiring reasonable security policies and procedures to protect — data and also report. What actually happened in the — Yet they would affect noted that the — but I was gonna say they would be forced to delete older are necessary data and notify the government in 4548 hours. A discovery return — – that thing where its like a month later he could argue that Citibank disclosed that it was hacked just that they — in an incumbent Eric. And we dont we dont really know — the consumers dont know what happens also the whole wishy washy. — – the world tell you some things but not some things under this bill that its — if it passes and it has to go through many steps for that to happen. That would enable us know what really happens Sony we saw how they play that game me — make a lot of these — we hear after the ct and at the same time. Theres something to be said about okay dont reveal exactly what happened yet but at least if they have to report it to the government. Then that at least that information flows. Yet it does sound like there are some loopholes already for example the the companies wouldnt have to tell anyone if the breach was an accident. — – Is it always an accident when theres every breach or a problem you dont — – you accidentally left here. Total Internet or totally and protected or you accidentally order — – — – like that to me seems to be a truck — loophole that they might want it. Why wanna close I mean maybe there imagining is — in which someone leaves a laptop and a car which has happened before the had a database on it. But it — Im concerned that ought to be disclosed to — – at well see what. How how the final version of the bill and not and whether get past development it is it is currently its way through you know little. Im goes downhill. You — hopefully well have dropped on it by Monet they dont let them. Anyway — that signals in the mail is that mayor on Capitol Hill. Its got to give — to Googles — – And. The first chose the US is domain seizures has been filed. A while ago the US government I think it was around the Super Bowl and they decided takedown. Several hundreds and now. As time has gone on on it led to the accidental seizure of over 84000. Sites some of which — stream means. Suitable and other sports lives so. If youve tried a few of these you could watch any game from any place. Pretty much killing the whole idea of doing something like an adult ticket or — league pass from — Major League Baseball so. Through this — – direct which was one of them is a Spanish Internet forum was seized because users were linked in establishing events. Now they were told that. Twice in Spain that their service was legal. But US law pushing forward who completely disregarded those — the you know Spains jurisdiction in oversight in this case. Decided to take town — director site and still at this time has there. — URL or — demeaning and — Yeah — – that the whole domain names — everything has been scinating to there were reports that all the a lot of the seizures were based on bad evidence they ended up taking down peoples blogs. In some cases like. Start blogs that — hip hop stars for example used to promote their own works but they take it down accusing them of of illegal streaming. The router act as the first one to really fight back and they have hired. Some pretty big names in intellectual property law and among other things theyre saying in their filing this is scinating that the domain names users violate the First Amendment which. Seems likely to me that they represent unlawful prior restraint but they also allege in some — and in some way that. The government the US government appears to have made up the idea that linking to infringing content. Is a criminal infringement at all and they cite several different cases including — vs Google and Ticketmaster harbors is tickets dot com. In finding that hyper linking to other sites does not constitute direct infringement because the whole. Domain — domain name — thing has — us right the hell out. Because it would seem to potentially be able to lead down a slippery slope. Right to take now my Google Google eBay. All all the major sites that we pretty much use yet because there are a lot of sites that inadvertently or not linked to infringing content to — lot infringing content on the web and also infringing content as the content itself. Is a moving – so it. If the if — – water — is successful and I think thats why theyve got these big name — you know intellectual dollars behind them. Because theyre trying to set a precedent that would say. — freaking hope you cant just without any due process take domain names off the web because youd think. You know whether you have been able to — – not that they link to infringing content. — the thing in the US government to go on and immediately shut down these domain names and claim — you had that. Kind of official statement warning that would show up when you tried to go to those sites but there — it wasnt like they were served and he noticed he just took and a — So one of the other things erosion direct is doing is they actually also tried to play by the rules of what was happening. So in their filing notes the court the date mentioned how they try to be patient in reclaiming their domain name you know in hopes of — instead of having this lengthy proceeding. There is a point where they had you know they want to discuss the situation with the Justice Department and pretty — – both sides to. You could almost can think of is like a backroom negotiation — like okay this is what were doing. What do we need to — to meet your meet your demands and then move forward but they pretty much — pushed off it its not that easy. To find people to talk to in the Justice Department about a — domain name. And so theyve been trying to advances trying to move this — but at the end theyve just been tentative in the run around. Yet thats whats scinating is they basically said look we have tried every possible means. To resolve the situation — – two to clear our name to get our our domain back on line and meanwhile were just continuing to lose business. — did a better otherwise I mean theyre saying like look we believed. Under our jurisdiction and under US slot that we are engaged in a lawful business and were losing money every day that you refuse to put our. Domain back online and — – refused to take our call in hell yeah so that — view. So through one of the reasons — the finest — that supports their contention that really the government just wanted to avoid a legal challenge. Thats why theyre moving forward and — okay you know weve had enough for this we are going to put were gonna put the sport now. And I I hope that they are successful in Gillespie our our standard and legal advice consultant — I dont use the city — – up when youre coming back theres still use the — and then therell be no legal stories every. They dont like need to have a do not. He says though he thinks that they may have some luck with the argument that there has to be some due process and you cant that they may not be able to just assume. That linking to infringing content — can be seen as criminal infringement. There the other thing that there arguing in their filing is that the domain names did not meet conditions set out under US law to qualify for seizure in the first place thing that it is not contraband. Evidence or particularly suited for illegal activities so theyre saying. You cant prove that we were method that the only thing we are engaged in is no — activity and frankly didnt even try. You have proof that you didnt like you is that is that it is — – are a double layout has basically mean they did the same thing and — – like the buckshot lawsuit. Approach they just take down domain names didnt bother to find out whether they were really doing anything illegal or not I mean its just — – it is appalling to me. But our government is acting in this manner anyway and then what they did is. After the ct. Go — past law. To — to justify it. — – Seriously is there like a PayPal on the — at lawyer website because I dont Ive taken — cash for that defense. Are you heard it setup your PayPal account seriously go — – — Arat direct that in other legal news we all — the patent wars the patent battles Apple has agreed to. To — Nokia. Patent licensing fees — this is the long running legal dispute where Nokia said — Apple is violating some of their patents on. Some of the patents were involved in lets see Apple reported they reportedly refused to license. Relate. Things relating to phones able to run on GSM three G and Wi-Fi networks they also include patents on wireless data speech coding security and encryption. According to Nokia. And its been a long running. Locking out that in 92009. — Nokia first sued Apple over those ten wireless handset patents and an Apple filed a countersuit. In December 2009 charging them with thirteen Apple patents infringing thirteen Apple patents related to the iPhone. But it sounds like. At least from the settlement perspective. Nokia — on this one. Yet the settlement — is likely netted to be somewhere over 600 million dollars plus others according to — is — – and between the lines blog. From what they — kind of figured out its not only — 608 million dollar payment from Apple. But also a long term royalty on the products so for example. If you every iPhone that has been sold its estimated. That Apple will be pain Nokia eleven dollars and fifty cents per iPhone as well. But if you look at this in the whole you know — for this quarter. It helps Nokias numbers but for the overall health of their company which we talked about what Samsung and Apple will both be bypassing. Hand held that are manuctured. Compared to Nokia. It it doesnt help the overall picture because really at the end of the date they are the ones that need to come — with innovation and spark this. Beat — third player potentially in the Smartphone market competing with all those Android handsets but be that third player. — M Morgan Stanley analyst Patrick stand art but that method — stand — of an art. There is — one — does little for the long term picture Nokia still has to transition to Windows Phone 7 devices and keep some market share going forward. Something it just — them — gain marketshare already. Its kinda like when Tivo got their 500 million from you know yeah Echostar its like okay like a mini wind — – not gonna see that and any other — you have money now but do you have a plan. If they can locked almost content deals right content is king me using it over and over and then it makes little more compelling but I. The main thing is that look at that this ecosystem that building — another App Store they have Amazons cloud locker service. And they have a streaming service. — this is one of the few companies that when you read and see those three things all on a device as it launches probably by the end of this year. They actually have an ecosystem to compete with Apples. — I think thats probably the only way to do it appeared to be perfect man to — – Bethlehem makes eminent its an interesting – player. Because — be the ability to build it top to bottom like that means that you can as weve talked about a lot. Control the entire experience and you have the leverage to make the deals — – some movie streaming service dot com trying to compete with Netflix you dont have a lot of leverage but if youre Amazon — – like it. We got — hardware we got them customer base we have the name recognition. I mean they should be able to makes indecent content deals and beef up Lambert — definitely. — opening serve and lets related god is totally on topic lets do it is watching some movie on Netflix and his like did you watch the movie viewing — – a little note link in the — and — – — and have little. Nearly — what did you — and Netflix and like. An in — I. I — what did you like to Annette yes but now — gets better — like that and Netflix and have little — – — what did you watch on your iPad. Yeah — this is the modern four year old right here I didnt have an iPad when it. You couldnt — – peanut dust hundreds of existing Ana Lara and it also subtle. Comcast and — – Skype to some of our TVs sued Comcast is having their — yearly in industrial industrys annual convention. And now one of things thatll be coming out — that is a few things with — theyre gonna be plan mean. They havent announced any hardware yet but the ability to make and receive Skype and video audio calls or send instant messages via Skype on — television while watching your vorite show the same time. Like I have that a caller right the little blur that shows — if youre a Comcast user. Falsely you know receiving audio — all calls sending them through — engine importing your — but — FaceBook outlook and Gmail. The service will be delivered on Comcast customers east he TV adapter box. This is that really trends you definitely seems to be like a lot — – connected TV providers were talking about Skype on TV and at CES. I I think you know — with has potential. We Europe — one of my is lame prediction that didnt work — I thought that the whole web video conferencing would be a bigger thing with integrated TVs because we really havent seen. The next net revolution in TV so maybe its another year away yeah Im surprised that it has been so slow to roll out but I think eaten. — – — – — – Nathan yet and Im — and it doesnt work for I mean nobody wants to do video calling for all of their pals because sometimes you need jammies and sometimes — paying attention and you know its. — – — The market is probably not just like were not evidently and a prayer hall — were not there whenever and Jimmy you can never make an average common vehicle run on — on every call video call. I would never think we make that little video call now that I think — I. Im surprised were not further alarmed on the — and yes definitely and Comcast in a good job for them for everything from — enforcement. The other thing is this if you compare to Ciscos umi or umi product which is X really expensive. I think its. At least and when it started with somewhere around 12100 dollars. Now they got the price on a 500 dollars please stop paying monthly subscription service for video comes in now looks great but — – the general consumers just not gonna jump on the. Yeah I know its gotta be part of the TV experience with in the — now although — – — – — conflicting — to really want a second complementing the other now a lot of DVR I think the DirecTV DVR they offered the of the caller IDs and I finally got a mile US authorities still there. I mean thats already happening — might — – its economy has been like if you. How cool happy to get pictured picture — – Bustamante the — I dont. I think people are not that idea to my mom. Thats called Molly your momma raised you — I muted. It — – — that. But even in a little use video conferencing right now we weve kind of learned as Amazon when you do video call you kind of tell the person lets do — – Anyone who does a random video — me when Im on chat I dont even accept — – its a phone date as sling video Al — that on. That the candles the music. Not the Graham an upper among them to me that — I yesterday. That we talked about rumors than an unlocked iPhone — might — – on Wednesday and here it is a day early. I all I dash it actually happened — – not surprisingly. At how expensive. I really — – there. And Molly does that — area — is Ed Decker island in Oakland that yet Oakland invented — Molly with the hello. So you can now buy an unlocked iPhone 416 again nothing has had and a — for the affordable price. Of 649. Dollars 32 — will be 749. Obviously thats why they lock the citys contracts that we dont have to pay this money up front but it you — – advantages you can use T mobiles edge network with. I mean itll work on T — – network. There are still those people out and buy it by those people I mean some states. Like the one that my — my parents — and they dont have AT&T three G service — they would love to have — view that everything thatll help value can pop out your sim card because internationally thats the biggest thing a lot of more than anything — – be for like you know the business user on the go or you know — – one has lot of money to travel wherever they — – Yes I can see an I think for that — – depth and — and that the flexibility and no contract in her at that point if — at that when. And attempting to the Atlantic 49 is left and youre in a pain in electric contract theres a thing — – — – the net are three more months for the next iPhone comes out. You really wanna get a lock on right now. Levy and caliper does that and — true true that — – — it is. Also — country and Williams and — – movement of decades weve just got a little bit of Xbox-360 console. Still rules the market according to data compiled by NPDs group. The market research firm Microsofts console is now held the number one slot and a PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii for eleven. — the past twelve months they sold 270000. Xbox 360s. TROLL HUNTER (DVD/Blu-ray Review

While not exploding into North American horror consciousnessquite the way J-horror flicks did in the early and mid-2000s, Scandinaviangenre cinema has found a foothold, courtesy of recent quality films such asRARE EXPORTS and SAUNA from Finland and Swedens LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Now onDVD and Blu-ray is a Norwegian representative in the form of TROLL HUNTER,courtesy of Magnolias Magnet imprint.

Another entry in the currently popular first-person-perspectivesubgenre, TROLL HUNTER unspools its found footage as a documentary threeuniversity students allegedly shot before mysteriously disappearing. Early in the film, they discover that a supposed bear poacher named Hans (Otto Jespersen) actuallyworks for a covert Norwegian government agency called the Troll SecurityService. His job: killing trolls that become nuisances or a danger to humancivilization while keeping the truth that trolls really exist secret from thecivilian population. While at first dismissive of the young filmmakers, Hanseventually decides to allow them to tag along to film him doing his job.Through Hans, the students discover an undercover world of natureconservationism, scientific research, political bureaucracy and corporate interestthats just as interrelationally problematic as such organizations tend to bein public knowledge.

The cast is talented and convincing. Jespersena populartelevision comedian in Norwayis the anchor of the cast, and he ably andimpressively portrays the deadpan, ever-sober Hans, who serves as the centralfigure in the documentary and, therefore, TROLL HUNTER as a whole. As r asmonster hunters go,Nike soccer cleats he is the anti-Quint; where the legendary JAWS shark hunterplayed so memorably by Robert Shaw was a 20th-century Captain Ahab with darkemotional trauma driving him to obsession and insanity in his quest to kill amonster, Hans is a nonplussed, impersonal working man doing his job. Thestudents realize Hans is basically a folk hero the folk know nothing about, butwhen they point it out to him, he humbly dismisses the notion entirely. Inct, his whole reason for allowing the kids to tag along and film him inaction is because hed like an audience to see what he goes through in anoccupation that supplies what he considers comparatively poor compensation.

A crucial element in the success of mockumentary– filmsis the believability of the world we see on screen. TROLL HUNTER isntconstructed to be as tension-heavy as most of the films this subgenre has givenus, but offers a stronger real-world aesthetic than most. Granted, theres agood amount of huntingand running away fromtrolls, but between thosesequences, air max shoes. the film takes the time to explain and justify its milieu. Most ofit is wonderfully clever. Old tires partially buried at roadsides arent justflats left by careless motorists, but indicators whether or not trolls havecrossed their boundaries (trolls use them as chew toys). Sometimes high powerlines are actually electric fencing to keep the beasts within their borders. Afew moments in which were shown the lengths the political dimwits are willingto go to in order to keep the truth about trolls secret arent necessarily asplausible, but the films dry sense of humor in such scenes makes up for it.

The trolls themselves are magnificently realized withexcellent CG FX and audio work. TROLL HUNTER also wisely presents its creaturesin progressively more dangerous situations involving more monstrous trolls thanbefore, each hunt a new experience for the viewer. If theres any realflaw here, it lies in the ct that it doesnt seem like writer/director AndreØvredal thought through the biology of his trolls as deeply adry humor definitions he should have, resulting in a few incongruities in comparison with the realism of the rest ofthe scenario. The creatures humanlike intelligence from myth has been leftbehind, leaving them as giant Nike mercurial vapor superfly, dimwitted animals; yet despite somepseudoscientific reasonings behind weird traits like their apparently ability tosurvive by eating rocks, knowing and hunting down Christians by the smell oftheir blood and vulnerability to sunlight, arent explained at all. The moviealso suffers from the usual frustrating conclusion the mockumentary genre dropsin our lap so often. It has no real ending; the footage just stops when, as thedisclaimer at the beginning hints, continued filming became impossible for thecharacters.

The audio and video quality of the TROLL HUNTER Blu-ray icellent. The 1.78:1 views of Norways countrysides, forests and mountainswill make you want to go there on vacation, while the excellent digital FXbringing the trolls to life in these surroundings may have you thinking twice. Not that youd really believe in them, of course, but you never know As afound-footage film Nike Air force, of course, this isnt supposed to appear as pristine as,say, PLANET EARTH, and picky viewers would do well to remember this ct. Thedeult audio setting is six-channel,Nike soccer shoes 24-bit DTS-HD Master Audio in Norwegianwith English subtitles; for those who arent into reading so much, theres asecond DTS-HD Master Audio track with an English dub.

The discs also come with a smattering of supplementalmaterial, and its somewhat a mixed bag. A 23-minute behind-the-scenes segmentis fun, given that its clips are more or less candid moments of the cast andcrew being silly or whatever while working. A six-minute visual FX segmentpresents a series of video montages showing how trolls and troll-related CGelements were incorporated into the existing footage, but these are relativelybrief and theres no explanation or commentary whatsoever. The deleted/extendedmaterial and an Improv and Bloopers segment are both very short and neithercontains much thats very interesting, though an extended version of the TrollBasics scene in the diner definitely validates the Extended Scenes segment. The photo galleries primarily consist of monster concept sketches andphotographs of many of the films locations, while a four-minute HDNet: A LookAt Trollhunter featurette serves as more a promotional piece than anything, essentially playing up the attempt to create a believable reality onscreen. Allsupplemental materials are in high definition on the Blu-ray.

Rated PG-13, TROLL HUNTER is not gory in the slightest, andit isnt going to deliver that continuous nailbiting tension you got fromsomething like, say, [REC], which might turn off certain horror purists. On theother hand, great effort went into creating a world of dark ntastic wonderhidden just beneath the veneer of the mundanea world where 100-foot monsterscan kick SUVs around like soccer balls. While the mockumentary subgenre isstarting to wear itself a little thin due to proliferation, TROLL HUNTER hasplenty of unique elements that make it a very satisfying experience in its ownright.
